Revolve 2010

Over the past year, my daughter and I have enjoyed reading Revolve 2010

NCV REVOLVE NEW TESTAMENT BIBLEZINE 2010.  Thomas Nelson Publishing Company provided me with a free copy to read and review.  I'm glad they did!  While looking like a magazine with short stories and teen/tween how to's, this book is the Word of God.  It starts with Matthew and ends with Revalation.  The working is very easy to read and maintains the meanings of the Scriptures of the New Testament.  My daughter will read this like any other magazine, so it does keep her attention.  Let's face it...the Word is so important these days....so I give two thumbs up to ANY thing that will help get God's Word in her heart. 

Finding Your Purpose Beyond Your Pain

Pain is no stranger to any person.  Everyone faces situations that seem to have ramifications that follow throughout the course of our lives.  This is why I chose to read and review Finding Purpose Beyond Our Pain by Drs. Paul Meier and David L. Henderson for Thomas Nelson Publishing.  This was a wonderful book.  These authors dive into every pain imaginable: Injustice, Rejection, Loneliness, Loss, Discipline, Failure, and Death.  What I liked best about this book is that each subject did not just get one chapter devoted to it, but several.  Meier and Henderson go into great depth with each painful experience.  They use real life situations teach real life lessons using Scripture as a foundation for healing.  Each chapter is very easy to read and understand without a lot of big words and jargon that only psychologists would understand.  At the end of each chapter, the authors give discussion questions so that you could use it as a daily devotion or Bible study group setting.  I took time to read this book.  I did not just speed through.  It was worth the slow reading as it gave me a chance to think about each situation and apply the principles to my own life.  I would suggest this book to any one.

Green by Ted Dekker

Recently, I read a book for Thomas Nelson Publishing and was asked to give a review of it.  I received the book for free in exchange for the review.  If you are looking for a book that has non-stop action and lots of detail, then Green by Ted Dekker is the book you want to read.  If you like being caught up in a story that leads you from one reality to another, then Green is for you.  I just finished this 392 paged novel where Thomas Hunter is once again faced with saving his world from distruction.  Only this time, he must save the dream world which has now become his home.  This is the fourth and final book in the Circle series which contains the titles Black, White, and Red.  At the front of the book, author Ted Dekker gives his readers a message that states you can either end the series with this book or start it with this book.  Since it had been a couple of years since I finished the previous books, I figured I'd see if this would be true.  While at the beginning, there are names and events that were fuzzy to me, for the most part, the reading was easy.  The book fills you in on details that are essential while not fully going into those stories once again; however, if you don't like plot spoilers, you may just want to start with Black.

Green begins with Thomas in his dream world where he now lives forever.  He and his people have lived a life waiting for Elyon (God) to return while enduring attacks from the group of people called the Horde.  These Horde chose to reject Elyon and worship the dark sovereignty of Teelah.  They also seek to destroy Elyon's people.  After many years of waiting for the return of Elyon, many begin doubting the promises his return.  Led by Thomas' son, Samuel, they begin to take matters into their own hands and join forces with enemies in order to take out the Horde whom they were instructed to love, not kill.  Thomas must find a way to restore faith unto his people.  As with other Ted Dekker novels, this book was one wild ride.  Each scene and chapter leaves you wondering what is going to happen next.   Each character is well developed and plays their own part in the twists and turns of events.  Overall this is a wonderfully told story that takes you from a reader looking into a fictional world to pondering if our world is not falling down the same path.  If you like intense and suspenseful action, then I highly recommend this book to you.  Until next time....

Voices of the Faithful, Book 2

I recently read the book Voices of the Faithful book 2. The cover is the first thing that grabbed my attention. The old weathered page look gives you an idea that you are about to look into the lives of very important people and take very important journies. Voices... is a compilation of daily devotions written by missionaries throughout the world. The book starts with January 1 and continues each day of the year. Each day contains a daily verse which is followed by a short story or anecdote that gives just a little insight to the lives of these precious individuals who take the Gospel to the nations. The devotion then ends with a prayer directive for the day.

Voices of the Faithful Book2 is easy to read and understand. I am using it as a Bedtime Bible Reading with my 8 yr old daughter. The verses and stories are not complicated and keep her interested. I like that each month focuses on a theme. This has helped when using this with my daughter. It has given us building blocks. I would recommend this book for family Bible study times. This will help educate our children on the trials and triumphs people go through as they teach others about Jesus.
